Weekend Dispatch

I am so ready for the weekend. I am looking forward to unplugging from both my laptop and my phone for much of the weekend. This weekend is a combination of running errands that absolutely must get done and sprinkling in some fun stuff in between. So, let's get to it, shall we?

Generally, the Academy Awards come around, and it's not uncommon for me to have seen zero of the movies nominated for Best Picture. This year my goal is to see at least two of them: La La Land and Manchester By The Sea. Tonight the girls and I are going to see La La Land while my husband takes his cousin out for his birthday. When I saw The Girl on the Train in theaters back in the spring, the trailer for La La Land played. I didn't think it looked particularly interesting at the time. But now with all the award hype, it has become a must-see for me.

Tomorrow morning I have to take Harper to have her routine blood work done. As a treat, I've promised to take her to her favorite place for breakfast, Meemom's Kitchen. We both love it and find any excuse to go there for breakfast. She loves the Meemom's French toast, and I usually get the multigrain French toast, but I'm itching to try something new this weekend. Stay tuned on my Instagram in case I post a picture! If you like coffee, definitely one to try is the Hey Blondie. I like to get it iced.

Tomorrow night I'm going to see Neil Simon's Barefoot In The Park at the Algonquin Theater with a few girlfriends. The Algonquin performances are always top-notch. I've never seen a bad show here. I've also bookmarked this as a possibility for next month.

Whenever my schedule allows, I take a restorative yoga class on Sunday mornings. What I love about this class is that the instructor incorporates light weights, so it's like getting a bonus workout. For those asking after reading last week's post about the Intro to Spin class, I work out here. Oh, and about that spin class. I liked the intro class so much that I took a real spin class on Tuesday. It was fun but definitely challenging. I plan to stick with it and do at least one class per week until I work up to adding more classes.

It seems as though we have had a never ending stream of coughs and colds in our house this winter. I stock up on Airborne, Cold-EEZE, and orange juice, but when those things fail, it's time to bring in the big guns. On Sunday afternoon, I'll be making a BIG batch of the ultimate chicken noodle soup and trying my hand at the iced tumeric latte (which fends off colds).

I've been obsessed with books about women going missing or being murdered or stalked (think Gone Girl, Behind Closed Doors, and The Girl on the Train). Lately, it's the only genre that can keep my attention for an extended period of time. This weekend I am going to be diving into Scott Blackwood's See How Small. It sounds riveting and like just the kind of book I need right now to escape everyday life.

So, tell me. What do you have planned this weekend?
