Spring is a time for new life. The earth blossoms and puts on a beautiful show. It is easy for your house to seem rather drab in comparison after a long, gloomy winter. If you are feeling like you’re ready to shake off the somnolence of winter and revitalize your home, here are 3 ways you can do it this season:
Depending on your budget, decorating options run the gamut. You can do something as simple as update throw pillows in the family room or linens in the bedrooms. Swapping out wall art and throw rugs is also relatively simple and inexpensive. Or you can go big and replace the furniture in one or several rooms. If you're the ambitious type, you can give a room a head to toe makeover with new paint, new furnishing, and new decorative accessories.
Whatever you choose, it's best to maintain a consistent style throughout the house, with each room being a subtle but unique variation on a theme. However, redecorating is a great opportunity to be creative and express your personal style.
If painting is an option, there are so many interesting techniques that are possible that you’ll find you’ll be disappointed not to have more walls to accommodate them. A painting technique that is becoming increasingly popular is the Ombre paint effect. When done correctly, this effect is both calming and stylish.
Another paint effect to try is using a splash of color. Choose a wall that you want to inject with life. Cover the floor around it and then throw your paint at the wall (or another alternative, the one I prefer, is to paint one wall in a room a different color). This gives the room energy and a certain eccentricity that you’re sure never to find at anybody else’s home, at least never exactly the same. This idea is similar to the technique of applying a brush at the top of wall with lots of paint and letting it drip to the bottom. Finally, you don’t just need to think about style but could also consider practicality too. New advances in technology have produced paint that is both self-cleaning and waterproof, perfect for a child’s room.
It is spring after all, and an annual spring clean is a must. If you are too tired after all the decorating, then consider employing bond cleaners who can clean your entire home (one time or ongoing) or specified rooms in your home. You may be able to keep on top of it the rest of the year round but to give you a good foundation, it doesn't hurt to have some help, especially since it can be overwhelming to clean your entire home.
3. Spruce Up The Outdoors
Winter can be harsh on our outdoor spaces, such as gardens, patios, yards, and decks. We have landscapers who come mid-spring and do a complete clean out of our yard. They remove leftover leaves from the fall, broken branches, and any other unsightly debris. It makes a huge difference and sets us up for any new planting we intend to do. It may be time to replace your deck or patio furniture. This year, we are replacing ours after having our current set for close to 15 years. It's starting to look a little ragged. If you plan to enjoy time outdoors, you want your space to look and feel it's best.
