June was a really good month for books. I read 4 books in total, and all of them were top notch. It's amazing how fast I read when I really enjoy a book. I'm struggling a bit right now since I just finished Elin Hilderbrand's latest release, 28 Summers, and OMG! It was sooooo good that any book I pick up just doesn't compare. So I am in a bit of a reading rut right now. I have about 4 books going, and I just can't keep on task with any one of them. I've been switching back and forth and that is not conducive to reading retention or to finishing a book. I am still ahead of schedule to finish 40 books this year, so at least theres' that.
Here are the books I read in June.
My sister gave me this book at the end of last summer, and I shelved it as I had others to read. Plus, it was a little long, and I feared it would take a while to read. I was wrong! Once I picked it up, I couldn't put it down. The Island is the quintessential beach read, so if you are heading off to the beach, I recommend grabbing this book for the trip. It's the touching story of sisters Birdie and India and Birdie's two daughters Chess and Tate and their summer adventures on remote Tuckernuck Island, off the Nantucket coast. There's everything from love to loss to new love to familial bonding in this heartwarming story.
This was a free download last month from Amazon Prime First Reads. If you are a Prime Member and aren't taking advantage of your free download each month, you are missing out. The Lending Library was one of last month's selections, and I dove right in since it was about a bookworm who loves recommending books to friends, family, and acquaintances. It turned out to be so much more than that. When a small town library closes abruptly for emergency renovations, a local art teacher decides to open a temporary library out of her home. She forges new friendships, makes a romantic connection, and learns a lot about herself along the way.
I had seen a lot of of this book on social media. Either the people I follow on Instagram were raving about it or Facebook friends were recommending it. When it finally was offered free through Amazon Prime Reading, I downloaded it. It's another book about the sisterly bond. But this one's a little different and takes us around the globe to New Zealand where Kit sets out on a search to find her sister Josie after seeing her on an international news story about a nightclub fire in New Zealand. However, Kit thinks Josie died years ago in a terrorist attack on a train. Will Kit find Josie? Is it even Josie she'll find or was the woman on the news a doppelganger?
After Jonathan discovers a leather bound day planner with a year planned out, he decides to live his otherwise boring and unexciting life by the journal. He also sets out to discover the owner of the journal, knowing only that the person who has added the events to the journal is "H.". Jonathan's quests puts him on a path toward healing, feeling, and maybe even loving again…if only he can meet the stranger who’s changing his life one day at a time.
I am currently reading Elin Hilderbrand's Barefoot which I purchased at Walmart. Stay tuned next month for a review!
