Friday Fresh Picks: Lemon Love!

Friday, July 28, 2017

Maybe because it's summer, and I crave tall glasses of icy lemonade. Or maybe I'm loving the vibrant yellows and fun prints. Whatever it is, lemons have me excited lately. I can't get enough of wearing them and decorating with them.

In this installment of Friday Fresh Picks, I'm sharing my favorite lemon-themed items.

Lemon Espadrilles

This classic summer shoe sports embroidered zesty yellow lemons. You cannot go wrong with espadrilles since they are the ultimate comfort shoe. If lemons aren't quite your thing, this shoe is also available with flamingos on them.

Cotton Shell Sweater
I own several of these shell sweaters from J. Crew and they are everything! Wear them alone or thrown a sweater on over it for chilly days and night.

Lemon Spatula
What better place is there for lemons than in the kitchen? This spatula is super cute...and functional. Gotta love that. The best part is that there's more of where the spatula came from! There's an apron, a spoon rest, a dish towel, a pot holder, and an oven mitt. Buy them all!

Off-The-Shoulder Dress (currently 60% off)
This casual dress doubles as a beach and pool coverup too!

Lemon Spiral Notebook
You know how much I love making lists and collecting notebooks. As if I need another, but this one is just too cute to resist! I also love this notebook.

Lemon Print Chino Shorts (currently on sale!)
Whether you are hitting the golf course or meeting girlfriends for lunch or cocktails al fresco, these adorable shorts will get the job done. They would look great with this top or this one.

Lemon Coin Purse
The most refreshing accessory out there is here! These are great when you're on vacation and just stepping out to grab a coffee or a green smoothie.

Off-The-Shoulder Top

This playful top gets becomes even more fun with a charming lemon print. Pair it with white or black for a crisp, summer look.

Friday Fresh Picks: Fourth of July Favorites

Friday, June 30, 2017

After Thanksgiving, the Fourth of July is probably my favorite holiday. It's one of those low-key holidays that's all about food, family, friends, and fun. What's not to love about that? As we are gearing up to celebrate next week, I've been planning festive meals, decorations, desserts, and games to enjoy on the day.

In this installment of Friday Fresh Picks, I'm sharing a few of my favorite Fourth of July-themed items.

Friday Fresh Picks: What's On My Radar

Friday, June 16, 2017

It's been a crazy, busy, emotional week here. The last day of school is today, and with that comes a host of end-of-year activities, events, and shows. Plus, Harper graduated from elementary school yesterday, and that's brought a whole other level of emotion to my otherwise peri menopausal emotional state. Needless to say, I've been need of distractions.

In today's Friday Fresh Picks, I'm sharing a few fun things on my radar lately that have proven to be great distractions when I've needed to step back for just a moment. I hope you find something here that piques your interest.

ONE
A few months ago I told my sister that if Fleetwood Mac ever tours again, we are going to see them. Hello, bucket list. Looks like I'll be able to cross this one off my list as Stevie Nicks is reuniting with the band to go on tour.

TWO
I've taken a break from my weekly menu plan posts because I felt uninspired and burned out. But when I found this YouTube series, I was intrigued. I've been trying to find some fresh and inventive ways to prepare meals on busy nights and during busy weeks to save time. This series of videos solves my dilemma.

Friday Fresh Picks: My Favorite Straw Totes

Friday, May 19, 2017

Helloooooo, Friday! This week was either flying by at lightning speed (when I was at the beach with Harper) or crawling at a snail's pace (those 6 miles on the treadmill). But here we are at Friday, and I couldn't be happier. We've been lucky enough to be enjoying summer-like weather here on the east coast. I'm not gonna lie. This weather has me yearning for summer and long, lazy beach days.

Speaking of long, lazy beach days...I'm sharing a few of my favorite straw beach totes in this installment of Friday's Fresh Picks.
Beach Please Tote $49
The cutest! You are going to the beach, right? So why not let everyone know with this tote. Stash a few towels, flip flops, sunblock, and a wristlet into this bag, and you are good to go!

Colorblock Straw and Cotton Tote $29
This oversized tote is a great value for the money. It's super roomy and could even fill in as a weekend bag, if needed.

Mini St. Tropez Tote $59
OK, so maybe this tote is a wee bit small for the beach. But hey, how about those aprés beach cocktails? You need a chic tote for that, amirite?

Web Handle Straw Tote $50
Love the retro vibe of this tote. Plus, the tote is deep...just what I need for my high-maintenance beach life.

Colorful Straw Tote $30
I love the colorful spin on this tote. It really sets it apart from natural straw totes.

Diamond Weave Tote $50
I love a boxy tote for holding a stack of folded towels. They fit perfectly into this space with plenty of room to spare for other beach essentials.

Rio Raffia Tote $139
Pom pom adornments are on everything this season especially straw totes. If you are looking for a bag that's totally on trend, this one is it.

Trendspotting: Shocking Pink

Friday, May 5, 2017
Hey there! Happy Friday!! We have a few changes here at Friday Fresh Picks, so let's get right into those first.

We have two new faces in the crowd! Yay!! Heather and Kimberlee are new to the Friday Fresh Picks group, and we are thrilled to have them onboard. Heather is a creative spirit and DIY guru (maybe I can learn a thing or two from her!) who shares her projects at Daze and Knights, and Kimberlee is a lifestyle blogger who shares the good, the bad, and the messy on her blog The Millenial Mom. Hilary, Sarah, and I are still mainstays, and we couldn't be happier to have Heather and Kimberlee in the tribe. I know you will love their contributions.

Let's talk pink! I few weeks ago I featured Millenial Pink in a Friday Fresh Picks post. This time, we are switching gears a bit and going in the opposite direction. This shocking pink definitely isn't everyone's cup of tea, but it's bold if that's the kind of statement you want to make. Unless you are dressing in this color from head to toe, it's a fun color for accessorizing (think shoes, earrings, necklace, scarf) or if you lean into fashion adventure, go with a fun top or pair of pants.

In this week's installment of Friday Fresh Picks, I'm sharing a few of my favorite shocking pink items.

Friday Fresh Picks: Cacti Fever!

Friday, April 21, 2017
We are currently enjoying a much needed getaway to Arizona. We flew into Phoenix yesterday and will be headed to Tucson a little later today. In honor of our our desert vacation, I'm sharing a few of my favorite cactus-inspired items in this week's Friday Fresh Picks.
I mean, come on! Is there a cuter way to greet your guests? No possible way ever.

Trendspotting: Millenial Pink

Friday, April 7, 2017

Millenial pink. Everyone's talking about it. Everyone's wearing it. Everyone's decorating with it. It's time to ride the millenial pink wave. This color isn't going anywhere anytime soon, so get in the game.

In today's installment of Friday Fresh Picks I'm sharing a few of my favorite millenial pink items...to wear and to decorate with.

1. Safavieh Maison Textured Wool Rug (price depends on size)
Make a statement with this stylish rug in an oversized trellis print. It's available in 6 colors, but this blush pink is my favorite.

Trendspotting: Yellow For Spring

Friday, March 24, 2017

Yellow is such a fun, happy color. It embodies sunshine and happiness. So why then do I so seldomly wear it? Part of the reason is that I am blonde, and blondes notoriously look horrible in most shades of yellow. It washes out our skin tone and certainly does little for our hair color.

But this season's yellows are bright and vibrant, shades of yellow that actually flatter blondes. I've been making an effort to add a few yellow pieces to my wardrobe to mix things up a bit and put those dark, gloomy colors of winter behind me.

In today's installment of Friday Fresh Picks I'm sharing a few of my favorite yellow items...to wear and to decorate with.

Friday Fresh Picks: My Favorite Off-The-Shoulder Tops

Friday, March 10, 2017
Every once in a while a trend comes along that I can't get enough of. Such is the case with off-the-shoulder tops. Last spring and summer, I jumped on the bandwagon, and this season, I am thrilled to see that the trend is still going strong. What I love most about off-the-shoulder tops is that we all have great shoulders, making this style of top universally flattering.

In today's installment of Friday Fresh Picks, I'm sharing a few of my favorite off-the-shoulder tops. If you don't have an OTS top, it's time to get one!

Striped Off-The-Shoulder Top from J. Crew Factory (currently $23.50)

This top is currently my favorite. It's made of a soft, knit cotton that is so comfy. It stays up nicely so you don't have to constantly tug at it and situate it on our shoulders. Also available in maroon and white stripes.

I wore it yesterday when the weather was unseasonably spring-like.

Pompom Off-The-Shoulder Top from Willow & Clay ($79)
How cute is the pompom detail on this top? It's adorable! This top would pair nicely with white jeans or white shorts and these sandals.

Friday Fresh Picks: J. Crew New Arrivals

Friday, February 17, 2017
J. Crew is killing it with their new spring arrivals. Have you seen them? They are nothing short of gorgeous. I'm definitely one of those people who goes through brand phases when it comes to fashion.

For instance, one summer I was obsessed with everything from Banana Republic. The collection was amazing, and the only items I purchased that season were from Banana. However, when fall came around, Banana's collection was disappointing.

Right now I am most definitely in a J. Crew state of mind. In this installment of Friday Fresh Picks, I am sharing a few of my favorite new arrivals. Take a gander.

I love the chambray trend but the tops can often look a little too boyish, but the flare sleeves on this top give it a feminine look and feel. This top would look super cute paired with a long, pleated skirt.

A basic tee gets a makeover with the addition of an exaggerated bow. All other tees in your drawer will be jealous of this one.

This dress is so sweet yet sexy. I love the one shoulder look, but the ruffle gives it a kind of sweetness that creates a nice balance to the one-shoulder.

I just ordered this bathing suit in navy and white. As you can probably tell, I am loving the one shoulder trend, and it's perfect for a bathing suit.

I love that not only is this tote so cute, but it's for a good cause too. Fifty percent of the retail price will go to the Wildlife Conservation Society to help protect whales and other endangered species.

I love anything scalloped, and this skirt is no exception. How cute is this detail? This skirt works for the office or the weekend which is a plus.

OK. This dress is everything! It has all my favorites in one: stripes, off-the-shoulder, ties at the sleeves. Yes, please. The only downside is that it comes in only navy. I'd buy it in every color if it were available in more.

I love lightweight sweaters, and a bow? How adorable. Although I don't love the red, this sweater is also available in navy or a blush pink, either of which I would gladly buy.

Check out these other J. Crew new arrivals:

Macaron Madness

Friday, February 3, 2017
I'm a sucker for trendy foods that are both pretty and tasty. French macarons definitely qualify. I mean, on any given day on Instagram, you're likely to see thousands of pictures of macarons styled in the prettiest ways.

In today's Friday Fresh Picks, I'm sharing a few of my favorite macaron-themed items.

phone case is the perfect way to show off your love of macarons.

This gold foil print is a pretty change of pace from the usual brightly colored display of macarons.

Friday Fresh Picks: 6 Shows To Watch On Netflix NOW

Friday, January 20, 2017
No matter what genre of television you like, you can find something to please you on Netflix. Lucky for me, I like a little bit of everything from documentaries to comedy to drama to true story to horror. On any given day, I can find at least 5 or 6 shows or movies to watch depending on my mood.

In this installment of Friday Fresh Picks, I'm sharing the 6 things I've been devouring on Netflix lately.

1. The Fall - This has got to be one of the most disturbing shows I've ever watched, but it's also a very fascinating, mesmerizing look into the human psyche. Jamie Dornan and Gillian Anderson give phenomenal performances as The Belfast Strangler and the law enforcement official trying to track him down respectively. At times you'll want to both look away and keep watching so as to not miss a single second.

Friday Fresh Picks: My 5 Best Buys of 2016

Friday, January 6, 2017
After reading Marie Kondo's The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up last year, I've been making an effort to evaluate each purchase I make and every item I bring into our home. I've focused on making purchases that will truly add value to my life in the short term and long term.
In this installment of Friday Fresh Picks, I'm sharing my best buys of 2016 and why they made such a lasting impression.

1. S'well Water Bottle
When I drink water, I like it to be ice cold. But with most cups the ice melts quickly, leaving me with lukewarm water. After reading all the positive reviews about the S'well bottle and hearing constant raves from Harper who loves her S'well, I finally bought one. The thermal lining keeps cold beverages cold for 24 hours and hot ones hot for 12 hours. I've definitely been drinking so much more water since I bought it and having a lot less dehydration headaches.

2. Mario Badescu Almond & Honey Face Scrub
I have long been a devotee to the Mario Badescu skin care line of products. Although they are great for any type of skin at any age, they have been doing wonders for my 40-something skin for years, especially more recently as I've been experiencing peri menopausal breakouts. A few months ago, I purchase the Almond & Honey Face Scrub and have been using it nightly since. It's non-abrasive yet does an amazing job of exfoliating my skin. It leaves me skin so smooth, soft, and hydrated that I often feel no need to follow up with a moisturizer (even though I always do).

3. Oneida Large Round Spatula
I don't know what took me so long to purchase this. I had finally had it with trying to flip pancakes and hash browns with a small rectangular spatula. This spatula is a lifesaver (and a food saver). No more hash browns that come out in clumps. I know how perfectly round hash browns and pancakes.

4. Rockland 3-Piece Luggage Set
When I started to think about packing for our trip to Florida back in October, I dreaded the thought. Mostly because our luggage was old, had broken zippers and wheels, and torn pockets. It was hardly functional or pretty. I started into buying a new set of luggage. I had no idea there were so many choices. It had been at least 15 years since I purchased luggage. I finally found this set at Target for a great price. I wanted a hard shell set, and this one got us through the trip in style and function.

5. A Subscription to Book of the Month Club
I knew that one of my goals for 2017 would be to do more reading. So in an effort to make that happen, I joined Book of the Month Club for $10/month. Oh, and I discovered BOMC through an ad on Instagram of all places. Anyway, here's how it works. At the start of each month, you'll get an email with 5 titles to choose from. You make your selection, and the book is then delivered to you with a note with my name handwritten on the envelope (a very much appreciated personal touch). You can't be the price for a hard cover book each month, plus I'm discovering new books and authors.
