Post-Workout Hydration and Recovery: Ensure Max Protein

I post frequently on Instagram Stories about my workout routine and what fuels me post-workout. I've recently gotten a lot of questions about what I like to eat and drink post-workout. Since I workout early in the morning, I generally don't eat prior to hitting the gym. But once my workout is over, I am in need of a solid source of protein that can aid in recovery and hydration. After a grueling workout and sweat sesh in the sauna, I drink a lot of water which fills me up too much for a full meal, but a high protein snack always helps to refuel me until lunch.

I was recently introduced to Ensure® Max Protein, a ready-to-drink nutrition shake that provides targeted nutrition to help you stay healthy, active, and energetic. Each 11 fl. oz. shake has 30 grams of high-quality protein, 150 calories, 22 essential vitamins and minerals, and 1 gram of sugar and is low in fat. You can't beat that kind of nutritional value for post-workout recovery.

Now that I am 50, it's even more important for me to get the post-workout recovery nutrients that I need to keep me fueled for the remainder of my day. Otherwise, I tend to hit an afternoon slump because I haven't properly recovered and my protein levels are low. Drinking Ensure® Max Protein at the end of my workout ensures optimal performance for the rest of my day whether I'm at work or shuffling my kids from one activity to another.

I purchase my Ensure® Max Protein shakes at Walmart where they are conveniently located in the Drug/Beauty section, which happens to be where I spend most of my time during the shopping excursions to Walmart. I love how they are packaged in bottles of four. They are super easy to throw into your gym bag or a small cooler for on the go.

Actress Kate Walsh, best known for her roles on Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice, is partnering with Abbott, the maker of Ensure to help inspire adults to join her in making simple nutritional changes to stay active and strong by incorporating Ensure® Max Protein shakes into their everyday diets. Kate Walsh knows the importance of protein and good nutrition for maintaining a healthy and active life, especially as we age and enter mid-life.

Weekend Dispatch

Wednesday, June 27, 2018

Things are getting serious here at the Jersey shore. With all the schools officially out, and July 4th on our heels, the tourist season is about to go into high gear. While that's great for the local economy, it's an adjustment for us locals. Everywhere is bustling with people, and you need to allow twice as much time to get anywhere and do anything. But it's hard to complain when you live at the beach.

Here's are a few things to check out this weekend no matter where you live.

Summer's "It" Cocktail: Aperol Spritz

Tuesday, June 26, 2018

Remember when expertly styled glasses of crisp rosé were all the rage on Instagram? It seemed every other picture on IG was a refreshing glass of rosé that made you want to crack open a bottle and pour a glass. Rosé has moved over and is being quickly replaced by the aperol spritz, a sunshine-hued cocktail. The year's most fashionable drink is blowing up Instagram and is a popular choice because it's not the kind of cocktail that knocks you over after just one. You could spend a few hours sipping a few over brunch and easily walk away unscathed.

4 Important Things To Consider About Parenting

Monday, June 25, 2018

Being a parent in this day and age can be challenging. There are so many things to worry about and to monitor in addition to teaching your children how to be kind, good people as well as preparing them for a life independent of you. There are is so much that goes into being a good parent and raising a child that it can often be overwhelming. But if you are somewhat (we can never be fully) prepared for what's ahead, your job as a parent can be slightly easier.

Summer Reading List

Friday, June 22, 2018

For me, summer is a great excuse to unplug, kick back and devour a great book. Carefree weekends spent lounging on your deck or patio, by the pool, or on the beach were made for reading. Since I can't devote as much time to reading as I once could, I tend to be very selective about the books I choose to read. Although I tend to lean towards psychological thrillers that have you on the edge of your set, I also love stories with happy endings, murder mysteries that keep you guessing until the last sentence, and heart wrenching dramas that require multiple boxes of tissues.

Here are the books I'll be reading this summer.

June is Pride Month. In addition to attending parades, events, and celebrations, you can show your pride with all the rainbow things. Not only are these items fun, but some of them give back to charity, which is an added bonus (be sure to check out the J.Crew Love First tee).

Weekend Dispatch

Tuesday, June 19, 2018

We are heading to Hershey, Pennsylvania this weekend to visit family and to have an at-home camp out, complete with a pop-up camper and a tent. We haven't been camping since we went two years ago, and since it's so hard to get everyone's schedule together these days to book a few days at a real campground, we are doing the next best thing. I can't wait! Other than that, we will be attending a graduation/send-off party for my niece's Brazilian exchange student and just enjoying some much needed time with my sisters and their families. Here's what else I'll be squeezing in over the weekend:

Style Crush: Carolyn Bessette Kennedy

Monday, June 18, 2018

With 90s style making a resurgence, it felt only fitting to honor one of my favorite 90s style icons: Carolyn Bessette Kennedy. To say that I was obsessed with her style would be a gross understatement. She had a classic style with a modern twist that even now, 20+ years later, still looks on trend. She could make a black tee and khakis look glamorous, so of course, everyone wanted to copy her.

It never mattered what she wore. Casual or special occasion, Carolyn Bessette Kennedy always looked fabulous. Here are a few of my many favorite looks:

Splurge vs. Save: Slip-On Sneakers

Tuesday, June 12, 2018

I love the casual, on trend vibe of slip-on sneakers. When I recently went online to browse the incredibly wide selection (there are tons of options!), I was blown away by the range in price points. Boy, do these sneakers run the gamut in pricing. You can buy a pair for $20, a pair for $200, and all price points in between. It seemed like the natural choice for a Splurge vs. Save post.

15 Fab Finds Under $20

Over the weekend, I happened upon a stack of gift cards in my desk drawer. After diligently checking the balance on each and every one, I discovered that most had remaining balances that were less than $20. Rather than become frustrated by the lack of funds on the gifts cards, I was inspired to find items that were cute but inexpensive and could be purchased with the leftover gift cards. Just when you think you can't find anything functional or adorable under $20, think again!

We are heading into a jam-packed weekend that includes a double graduation party on Saturday night. Sweater Weather

Tuesday, June 5, 2018

June can be temperamental when it comes to the weather. Here in New Jersey, June typically brings days that are downright hot and other days where I literally have to check the calendar to make sure it's not March.

For this fickle month, I like to have a favorite sweater that I can fall back on during days when it starts brisk, turns warm, and ends chilly. This striped off-the-shoulder sweater has been a life saver this month. I've found myself reaching for it over and over again, and I get so many compliments on it when I wear it. It was perfect on a recent chilly, raining Sunday when I spent the afternoon browsing a local bookstore.

Tips For Finding The Perfect Gift

Assorted Gift Boxes on Brown Wooden Floor Surface

Although we think of December as prime gift giving season, late spring and summer offer plenty of opportunity for giving the perfect gift as well. With Father's Day, graduations, weddings, showers, birthdays, and more on the agenda, you're going to want to present the recipient with a special, unforgettable gift.

For some people, buying a gift for someone in their life is one of the most enjoyable things there is. It lets them get creative and search for a gift they will really love. Of course, for the others, it can be a serious source of stress and dread. Trying to find the right gift can often be enough to reduce many people to a puddle of anxiety. After all, what if you can't find something? What if you find something but they end up hating it or already owning it? Don't panic. The ideal gift for just about anyone in your life is out there waiting for you!

Trendspotting: Gingham

There isn't a print that's more quintessentially summer than gingham. It just seems to scream warm, sunny days. But if you have a mental block when it comes to wearing gingham because it conjures up images of our favorite Beverly Hillbillies Elly May and Jethro Clampett, it's time to revisit gingham.
