4 Important Things To Consider About Parenting

Monday, June 25, 2018

Being a parent in this day and age can be challenging. There are so many things to worry about and to monitor in addition to teaching your children how to be kind, good people as well as preparing them for a life independent of you. There are is so much that goes into being a good parent and raising a child that it can often be overwhelming. But if you are somewhat (we can never be fully) prepared for what's ahead, your job as a parent can be slightly easier.

1. It Gets Harder (Then Easier)!
One of the important things to remember about parenting is that it is going to get harder, before it gets easier! Your kids are tough to raise at a young age as they are more dependent on you but just wait until they hit teenage years! We are in the throes of the teenage years with two daughters ages 16 and 12, and I speak from experience when I say that the teenage years are some of the toughest years of parenting. So many parents dread the teenage years when their kids are hormonal and changing every day. This can be one of the most trying times in the lives of a lot of parents and children, and it is important to prepare yourself for this. You will hardly get through the teenage years unscathed, but it does get easier as your children mature over time and become young adults.

2. It’s all About Routine
Routine is one of the most important buzzwords in the life of any parent. From an early age, it's important to introduce routine to your child. Children need to have a routine and structure in their days, so they know what to expect. Make sure you refer to a sleep training guide, get them started on potty training, and keep mealtimes to a set sort of time when possible. Routine is so important for children when they are developing, and they need it in order to help them understand how life works.

3. Safety is Essential
Children need to understand the concept of boundaries and rules from a young age. The world operates on rules. The sooner they understand that everyone has restrictions, the better they will be at adhering to them. You also need to consider what it takes to keep your kids safer these days as well. There are a lot more dangers that can affect kids in the world nowadays, and online problems rank among the worst. As a parent, you have to make sure you adapt to trends and prepare so that you can more effectively protect your children. Whether this means putting a parental filter on the internet, managing their cell phone, or teaching them about the dangers in the world, it is so important to take action with this as soon as you can.

4. You’re Going to Need to Save Money
Kids are expensive! Raising children is an expense, and you have to make sure you save money as best you can because having a nest egg for expenses will help keep you financially comfortable and confident. There is so much added expense as parents, and every penny counts these days. This is why it is so important for you to be able to save more money and keep up with the expenses of parenthood. It's also important to teach children how to earn and save their own money. We are at the stage right now with our daughters. From babysitting to summer jobs, they need to know how to earn, save, and spend their own money.
