Weekend Dispatch

It's been a busy week between work obligations, preparing for and celebrating Harper's birthday, and gearing up for the long President's Day weekend, which has been cut slightly short due to a snow makeup day. :-(  There's still plenty of time to squeeze in all the things we want to do. Here's a rundown on how I'll be spending my time this weekend.

Spend Sunday afternoon with President Ulysses S. Grant! The Historic Village at Allaire presents An Afternoon with President Grant on Sunday, February 18th from 1:00 - 2:30. Join Ken Serfass of the Traveling Literary Theater as he portrays Ulysses S. Grant. Explore Grant's early years with stories from his youth, growing up in Ohio through his military training at West Point and the hints of greatness to come. Tickets cost $15 per person, and pre-registration is required. Tickets can be purchased here.

I discovered Jerry Seinfeld's "Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee" series on YouTube several years ago but watched only a few episodes (standouts include the episodes with Jimmy Fallon and Miranda Sings). So when I recently discovered that Netflix was airing it, I was elated. In short, Seinfeld spends a few hours driving around (most frequently in Los Angeles) with a fellow comedian in a vintage automobile. Seinfeld is an avid vintage car collector, although not all the cars featured are owned by him. While I am not particularly into stand up comedy or vintage cars, this series is both fascinating and entertaining, mostly because Seinfeld's guests aren't trying to be overly funny. Bonus: Seinfeld has an incredibly impressive collection of beautiful, vintage cars.

I don't love to cook. My husband is definitely the chef among us, but during the winter months, I love to make different kinds of soups. They are the ultimate comfort food, and most recipes appeal to everyone in the family. Most recently I made this Tuscan tortellini vegetable soup, and it was a crowd pleaser. It was super simple to make, and I generally had most of the ingredients in my pantry, spice cabinet and refrigerator. Plus, it makes a big batch so you'll have enough for a crowd or some to freeze for later.

Beginning Friday, February 16th, Spring Lake Theater Company will present its production of Bye Bye Byrdie. SLTC never disappoints and has an amazing cast and crew that puts on an impressive shows. I've seen many productions at SLTC and many rival those I've seen in New York City. You can find show and ticket information here.

If you're like me, you're always striving to get your sh*t together. But does anyone really have their sh*t together? Probably not. But I am a firm believer that improvements can always be made. Get Your Sh*t Together is for anyone who has ever found themselves wanting to do more of what they love with their life and less of what they don't. Want to finally get your butt off the sofa and get to gym? This book is for you. Have you wanted to visit a far-off destination but can't get your act together to plan it? This book is for you.

So, tell me. What do you have planned this weekend?
