What We're Reading

Monday, November 12, 2018

We are currently enjoying a much needed vacation in Captiva, Florida. And when you're on vacation, lots of reading happens. Shortly after boarding the plane last Wednesday, I finished reading this book which was downloaded on my Kindle. At the last minute I threw a book in my carry on bag since I didn't have one downloaded. I started it on the plane, and finished it 2 days later. It was so good.

What I'm Reading: The Girls by Emma Cline
I bought this book at my grocery store a few weeks ago for $4. I was saving it for vacation when I knew I would want a hardcopy book to read at the pool and beach. This book didn't make it very far. I started reading it on the plane and finished it two days later when we made it to Captiva. I was captivated by the subject matter of this book. It bounces back and forth between present day and 1969 in northern California and focuses on a young girl's experience of getting sucked into a cult.

What Emma's Reading: To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee
For her 11th grade language arts class, Emma is reading this literary classic this year. They haven't started reading it yet, but she's getting a head start on it since she often has difficulty with reading comprehension. This is one of my favorite books of all-time, and I am so happy that Emma is finally reading it. It's a story that transcends time, and I think she'll appreciate that it's told from a young girl's point of view.

What Harper's Reading: To All the Boys I've Loved Before by Jenny Han
After watching the movie on Netflix, Harper couldn't wait to start reading this book. A teenage girl has written letter to the five boys she has every loved. But the letters are unsent and kept in a hatbox where only Lara's eyes can see them. Until, one day they are missing from the hatbox and end up in the hands of the five boys.
