Weekend Dispatch

After a crazy busy (with impromptu plans) weekend last weekend, I'm looking forward to something a little more relaxing this weekend. After hitting the gym together on Saturday morning, The Hubs and I drove an hour each way to the closest IKEA to pick up a dresser for Harper. While that was as uneventful as it possibly could have been (the staff at IKEA's customer pickup were very efficient and quick), I still had the long road of assembling the dresser ahead of me. Assembling anything is not my husband's cup of tea, so I put most of it together with a little help from Harper. Let's just say that I'm going to do everything in my power to avoid putting together anything this weekend. But here's what I do plan to do:

If you are local to the Jersey shore or are just visiting for the day, head to Just Dough It's grand opening weekend. Their first ever shop will feature edible cookie dough by the scoop. Um, oh yeah! The official grand opening is on Thursday, March 1st, and the first 25 customers will receive a free scoop. So, let's recap. Completely edible. Completely safe with no threat of salmonella since raw eggs aren't used in the preparation of the product. And delicious!! What are you waiting for????

Just Dough It is located at 606 Arnold Avenue in Point Pleasant Beach.

Ever since its opening, Catsbury Park has been on my to do list. This weekend Harper and I are finally going to make it happen! Catsbury Park is the first cat café in New Jersey. All cats and kittens at the café are available for adoption and every dollar spent while visiting the café goes back into helping the cats and kittens. For more information, including hours, visit the link above. For all my fellow crazy cat people, a visit to Catsbury Park is a must.

Last week I finally got around to downloading Audible with a gift card I received from a blogging conference years ago. Not sure what took me so long, but I finally did it. I downloaded "The Woman in the Window" by A.J. Finn, and it didn't take long to get completely sucked in. However, it did take me a few chapters to get the hang of listening to an audiobook. It's a very strange concept when you've been an avid book reader for most of your life. But anyway... "The Woman in the Window" is, of course, a psychological thriller (my fave!). The chapters are short and there are many of them (101, I think). I'm only on chapter 14, but I'm so intrigued. I'm not sure the direction the book takes since I haven't read any reviews, but it's definitely a page turner. Oh, wait. Can I say that if I am listening to an audiobook???

If you are a regular reader, you know how much I love my podcasts. A few months ago I shared my five favorites. Now I am adding another podcast to my growing list of favorites. I love podcasts that are short and direct. NPR's Up First podcast is exactly that. It's a 10 minute run down of everything you need to know from current events to pop culture to politics. The three hosts are enjoyable, entertaining, and educated.

I gave up chocolate (and alcohol) for Lent, so I am very limited in how I indulge right now. The upside is that I've been focused on finding healthy recipes for treats that satisfy my sweet tooth. When I found this recipe for raspberry oatmeal cookies on Pinterest, I was beyond excited. I'll be making these cookies this weekend and hoping that they turn out as sweet and as chewy as the recipe author promises.

So tell me. What do you have planned this weekend?
