Weekend Dispatch

Wednesday, July 10, 2019

Last weekend I was sidelined with an upper respiratory infection and a sinus infection. I felt absolutely awful but managed to rally for some 4th of July festivities. By the time Saturday morning rolled around, I was pretty much exhausted and in need of some downtime. I caught up on Big Little Lies (this season is sooooo good!), finally finished a book that seemed to take forever to read, and fell way behind on laundry.

This weekend my sister and my great nephew are coming from Pennsylvania to visit, so we'll spend time at the beach and hitting up our favorite shops and restaurants.

But for now, I'll be catching up and trying to get ahead. In between, here are a few of the things I'll be up to.

A few weeks ago when I was pulling a trailer for a previous Weekend Dispatch post, the trailer for Danny Boyle's Beatles-inspired movie Yesterday played. From the moment the trailer started, I knew I wanted to see the movie. A man wakes up after a world-wide power outage to discover that he's the only person who remembers the Beatles. Not only is the concept of this movie brilliant, but I'll take any chance to listen to Beatles music. This week I plan to see the movie, and I'm hoping it delivers beyond the trailer (which is really good) as well as the music.

If you're addicted to self-help, personal growth, and mastering your mindset, this podcast for you. This podcast is like having your very own motivational speaker. Not all episodes will speak to everyone, but many of them are just the push you may need to take the next step, to make that call you've been putting off, or pursue the dream you've always wanted. It's also an opportunity to turn fear (which is generally what prevents us from doing anything) into personal growth.

When I became a vegetarian, I quickly fell into a food rut. I'd eat the same meals over and over again without adding new recipes into my rotation. Part of it was that I was thoroughly enjoying what I was eating. The other part was that I didn't have the ambition to go searching down new recipes and food ideas. Until I became utterly bored out of my mind with what I was eating. There are only so many . rice, roasted chick peas, and sautéed spinach bowls one can eat. However, because it was one of my favorites, I went in search of variations. I found this recipe for broccoli, chick pea, and brown rice bowls with a soy mustard dressing. They are super easy to make and each recipes makes 4 servings, so they are great for meal prep situations.

When I do my weekly research for Best Online Reads, I often go down (way down) a rabbit hole reading suggested articles. Recently I found this article about 5 questions you didn't know you needed the answers to, and I thought it was fantastic. Seriously, good info here that you never knew you wanted to know!

So, tell me. What do you have planned this weekend?
