Rest. Recharge. Repeat.
Monday, July 8, 2019In the weeks leading up to the fourth of July holiday, I went back and forth with myself over taking the week off. I rarely take a break from the blog. Even when I'm on vacation, I work hard to get content written and scheduled before I leave so that the blog isn't stagnant for a week. But since we were sticking around here last week, I decided that I'd go about the blog business as usual. I had planned to write the posts a day ahead of time and publish them the next morning. Except that didn't exactly happen.
Last Monday's post was written and posted, and then I randomly and unexpectedly decided to just unplug. It also helped that I woke to a bout of sinusitis on Wednesday morning that had me down for the count until Saturday afternoon when I sort of starting coming to life again. I didn't force blog posts. I did fulfill obligations for a client, but other than that, I didn't devote a whole lot of time to the blog or to social media.
Instead, I used my downtime as a chance to hit the 'Reset' button. I finally finished a book that had taken me way too long to read. I took naps and didn't hit the gym (doctor's orders!), and I took stock of the posts that I want to focus on in the coming months and some improvements I want to make to the blog. I'm also going to be focusing on posting more frequently and consistently on Instagram, since many of you have asked for more content over there.
By the time this morning rolled around and I sat down at my desk, I felt re-energized and ready to get back in it. I normally wake after a holiday weekend dreading getting back to work, so it was nice to recharge my batteries and to feel thrilled about tacking my 'Inbox' after a long weekend.
If you feel like you need a break, take a break. It's never be a bad thing to take a step back and take time for yourself. Whether that me time includes doing something or doing nothing, you won't regret the time you devote to you.
