What We're Reading
Monday, July 29, 2019I am almost half way to my my 2019 Goodreads reading challenge goal of 35 books. I am finishing up book number 17 this week and am deciding on book 18. I like to move right to the next book without missing a beat so I keep my momentum going. I'll be choosing a book from my summer reading list. If there's a book on here that you'd recommend, please leave a comment to let me know which one. Thanks! xx
Here are the books we are currently enjoying:
What I'm Reading: In The Darkness by Mike Omer
This is the second book in the popular murder/mystery series by Mike Omer. I read the first book, A Killer's Mind, I wrote about here. I don't usually fall prey to books that are part of a series, but this one had me from the very first line of the very first book. It's face paced and thrilling, which are two qualities that every psychological thriller must have. It also had good character development. I love getting inside Zoe's mind and seeing things from her perspective as a forensic psychologist.
What Emma's Reading: Blended by Sharon M. Draper
This story is about racial identity and the struggle 11-year-old Isabella has when her parents (one of whom is white and the other is black) get divorced and she's divided between two worlds. The world with her mom is vastly different from the world with her dad. Just when things start looking up and become a lot less divided, one situation completely changes life for Isabella.
What Harper's Reading: Five Feet Apart by Rachael Lippincott
Emma read this book a few months ago during our spring break trip to San Diego. Harper is now reading it after having seen the movie. If you have a teen who liked John Green's The Fault in Our Stars, this book will appeal to them. Two star-crossed teenagers can't get within 5 feet of each other or they risk their lives. This book answers the question, "Can you love someone you can never touch"?
