The unofficial start of summer is just two weeks away. You may be preparing for longer days, shorter work weeks, and quite possibly, a much-needed getaway. But have you thought about preparing your home for the summer months? The warm summer months present a different set of challenges than the cold winter ones, but it's still important to be prepared.
Here are 5 steps to take to get your home summer-ready:
1. Check Your AC Unit
Your air conditioner has been sitting idle during the cold winter months collecting leaves and other debris. Replacing the filters, cleaning the condenser, and performing a few minor checks will get your AC unit into shape so it's ready to operate and cool your home efficiently this summer. If you have central AC units, you may need to call a professional to come to your home and do a quick inspection. We use a heating, cooling, and plumbing service that swings by in late May to replace the filters and check to be sure the AC unit turns on and is working as it should.
2. Create an Outdoor Oasis
One of the things I look forward to most in the summer months is spending more time outdoors, and I don't just mean at the beach or pool. I love to create a relaxing and cozy space on our deck each summer. It becomes a second family room for our family and somewhere to which we can retreat after a long work day.
Having plenty of seating for you and your family as well as guests and adding plants and flowers makes the space colorful and friendly.
3. Spray For Ticks and Mosquitos
What good is your outdoor oasis if you are being eaten alive by pests? Now is a good time to call a tick and mosquito spray services to rid your yard of buzzing and biting pests that will kill your outdoor vibe. Many offer free quotes and can customize a plan for you whether you are looking for a long term solution or just need a spray for a special event or party.
4. Check Fire, Smoke, and Security Alarms
It's recommended that we check our fire and smoke alarms twice yearly, but most of year forget to do that. Memorial Day weekend is a great time to do some household maintenance, including replacing batteries and checking to be sure that fire, smoke, and security alarms and systems are working properly. These systems are life-savers, and any faulty equipment can mean the difference between being safe and putting yourself in harm's way.
