Weekend Dispatch

As I sit here trying to thaw out (why is winter still hanging around, anyway?), I thought I'd plan my weekend. I have big plans to start a massive clean out of our attic. I figure if I start now, I should be finished by June. Baby steps. There is so much junk up there that's leftover from the days the girls were little and would part with nothing. Now that they've outgrown that, it's time to purge. In addition to taking the first step in "Operation Attic", here's what else I'll be up to this weekend.

Our local high school's spring musical starts this week and runs through the weekend. I finally purchased tickets on Monday to see the Sunday matinee performance...of Grease!!!!! I mean, does it get any better? Grease is one of my favorite movies, and I cannot wait to see the talent that comes out of this show. Our high school is known for it's amazing performing arts department, and every musical I've seen over the years has been nothing short of impressive. If you are local, there are still a few ticket remaining. Call 732-701-1900 x2218

If you are a regular reader, you know how much I love listening to podcasts. I credit them with getting me through many dreaded walking workouts. Not only that, but podcasts are full of great information and entertainment. This week goop launched its podcast series, and let me tell you, the first episode is epic. Gwyneth Paltrow sits down with Oprah for a conversation about literally everything. It felt like I was eavesdropping on the conversation of two best friends. I've listened to it a second time which is unheard of in my podcast world. It's THAT good. You can listen to it here or find it on your favorite podcast app.

Speaking of Oprah (who isn't these days?), A Wrinkle In Time is currently in theaters, and Harper and I are dying to see it. I've never read the book but am considering binge-reading it before the weekend arrives. This movie looks phenomenal from the fantasy-like setting to the costumes to the incredible cast.

Most Sundays, we have a typical Italian pasta dinner with my husband's homemade meatballs. He makes a big Caprese salad with a big loaf of crusty Italian bread. It's all so delicious, but we always have leftover bread and mozzarella from the salad that I never know how to re-use. I finally decided to Google the ingredients in search of something different to make. I found this recipe for Caprese pizza...Yum! You can use French or Italian bread...whatever you have works. It is soooo good, and it's a great way to keep from throwing away the expensive fresh mozzarella.

After watching Mindhunter on Netflix, I was oddly intrigued by the idiosyncratic behaviors of serial killers. When I came across this interview with three convicted criminals (a serial killer, a rapist, and a child molester), I was hesitant to read it for fear of its graphic nature, and I certainly didn't want to read it at bedtime. Eventually, I read it, and it is incredibly interesting and enlightening. I expected hardened criminals, but it's surprising how maximum security prison has mellowed the criminals. It's a good read and worth checking out.

So, tell me. What do you have planned this weekend?
