Decorating your home is a never ending process. As home interior styles and trends change, I have a tendency to want to follow them, which can get expensive. Since I don't always have the budget to make large scale changes, I try to stick to a combination of buying new and mixing up what I already have. New furniture, knowing how to repurpose old things, adding color, changing a theme are all ways you can update the look of your home and make it feel brand new without blowing the budget. Here are a few other ways I make quick updates on a small budget.

Declutter
Decluttering is one of the easiest ways to make some changes to your home. Look at some of the furniture as well. Moving around pieces of furniture from room to room might be the ideal remedy. Donating old or gently worn but outdated pieces to places like habitathm.ca/restore/ or even selling unwanted furniture online to add to your makeover fund can be the ideal way too. A tidier space can give you a blank canvas to work with and inspire you in many ways.

Create a Feature Wall
A feature wall gives you the benefit of creating a new space without the worry of having to invest in a lot of paint to paint the entire room. It gives you the chance to create an eye catching feature and also allow a room to feel different with minimal effort. It could be that you choose to use wallpaper instead or photos and prints to create a feature.

Make Better Use of Windows
The window is a natural way to make a room feel more light and airy, it can also help to make a room feel bigger so make the most of the one you have in the room. Open up the curtains or dress up the window with new blinds, shutters or curtains to give it a dramatic makeover.

Change One Thing
This is one of my favorite ways to make a change to a room. I zero in on one thing about the room that bothers me. It could be a pieces of furniture, the flooring, a throw rug (or lack of), or a decor item. And then I commit to changing it. Often investing in one area can make a huge difference. Whatever it is, you could make a big difference to the room simply by changing one thing, and you'll be happier too.

Create a Different Layout
Who says you need to spend any money at all? Changing the layout and furniture placement of a room is an incredibly cost-effective way to update the look. Try a table against a different wall, move a sofa, use furniture or accessories from other rooms to give this room a whole new look. There are plenty of ways you can freshen things up that don’t require much money at all, only your time and visual expertise to bring it to life.
