How To Juggle A Hectic Work and Family Life

Tuesday, August 21, 2018

When you're a working parent, life can be tricky at times. Juggling your work life and home life is no easy feat. The fact is that for working moms, juggling a hectic work life and family life can, at times, seem totally impossible. The good news is it's not impossible. It's just a case of knowing how to balance everything effectively. If you have a plan of action in place, are organized and have help on hand for when you need it, you can make it much easier to cope and find a good balance between your work life and family life.

Here are a few tips I use to work efficiently, parent effectively, and run a home at the same time.

Plan Your Time
The first step to managing more effectively and balancing your time is simple: plan, plan, plan. If you want to make more time for your family without compromising your work, you need to plan effectively. If you work from home, designate times that you work from and times that are family time and don’t let the two overlap. Be firm with your boss regarding overtime and explain that you can only do a certain amount and no more because you need to balance family life with your work life.

Ask For Help
There’s no shame in asking for help. If you are struggling with aspects of parenting and running a home yourself, don’t be afraid to ask for help. There’s no shame in hiring help to make life that little bit easier. Whether you opt to hire childcare for your kids or use a housekeeping company to make it easier to keep the house neat and tidy, it doesn’t matter, all that matters is that you get the help and support that you need.

Get Organized
When it comes to making life easier for yourself, organization is the key. When you have spare time, utilize it. Say, for instance, your evenings are really busy and cooking dinner is a nightmare. Spend an afternoon prepping food, cooking, portioning, and freezing homemade ready meals for easier dinners for busy weeknights. When it comes to family life, the more organized you can be, the better.

Slow cooking is another route to quick and easy dinners. Buy pre-cut meats and vegetables, find a recipe, toss everything into the slow cooker in the morning, turn it on low heat, and leave. By the time you get home, your dinner will be cooked to perfection and ready to serve. You can make all types of meals in a slow cooker, from soups and stews to lasagne and even baked goods, it’s just a matter of getting creative.
