Restoring Faith in the Easter Bunny

Tuesday, April 26, 2011
A few weeks ago when we discussed going to see the Easter Bunny, Emma said, "I'm not sitting on his lap, Mom. I'm too old."

My first thought was, "Oh no! Not already." How can an 8 year old have given up so quickly on the Easter Bunny? I wasn't sure exactly where she was coming from, and I certainly wasn't ready to address it.

So when she suggested that we see "Hop" on the first day of spring break last Monday, I was elated.

In a nutshell, "Hop" is a comedy about E.B. (voiced by Russell Brand), the teenage son of the Easter Bunny. On the eve of taking over the family business, E.B. leaves for Hollywood in pursuit of his dream of becoming a drummer. He encounters Fred (James Marsden), an out-of-work slacker with his own lofty goals, who accidentally hits E.B. with his car. Feigning injury, E.B. manipulates Fred into providing him shelter, and Fred finds himself with the world’s worst houseguest.

"Hop" has the ability to transform any nonbeliever into a believer again. Lucky for me, if Emma had any doubts about the reality of the Easter Bunny, they were quickly dispelled. She walked out of the theater asking when we'd visit the Easter Bunny for pictures. And I was grateful. I'm just not ready to cross that bridge yet. Kids should be kids for longer than 8 years old.
My little believers with their furry friend.

Hope you had a glorious Easter!
