What We're Reading

Friday, January 13, 2017
One of my goals for 2017 is to do more reading. I studied literature in college, and books have always been my first love. But with the advent of Netflix and podcasts, I veered off the reading path and got sucked into a binge-watching, binge-listening black hole last year. Although I certainly don't see Netflix and my favorite podcasts going away anytime soon, I do intend to make reading a priority this year.

Here's what we are currently reading on these cold winter days and nights.

What I'm Reading: Tempting Fate by Jane Green
I've always loved Jane Green's books, but after listening to this podcast on The Moth, I adored her (as a writer and as a person) even more. She seems like an authentic writer who pens her stories from her heart. In Tempting Fate, a middle aged woman, Gabby, questions her identity and feeling of self-worth at her age and whether there is more to life than what she currently has.

What Emma's Reading: Elenor & Park by Rainbow Rowell
This is a heart warming story of the two star-crossed misfit high schoolers who fall in love but completely understand how fragile and fleeting first loves can be. But they are brave enough to try to prove first love fates wrong. This book will take you back to your first love and the incredible feeling of being pulled in and under by love.

What Harper's Reading: Watch The Sky Kirsten Hubbard
When a young boy's stepfather obsesses over the apocalypse and convinces the family of the many "signs" that point, to it, Jory begins to doubt the validity of his stepfather's claims. But will he have the courage to stand up to his own convictions or will he shut his eyes to the world he's only just beginning to see?
