Weekend Dispatch

Let me start by saying that it's really hard to sit here at my desk cranking out the blog posts when the weather is so insanely GORGEOUS outside!!! Spring is finally here, and it is showing off! I did trade the gym for an outdoor trail this morning. I logged 4.8 miles in the glorious sunshine, but now I am stuck inside until a little later today when I'll be heading to Emma's lacrosse game. However, my desk is firmly planted in front of an open window, and I am taking in the views of the sunny outdoors. It's all good.

Just two short days until the weekend begins. If you are lucky enough to be going into the weekend with a clean slate, here are a few ideas for things to do, watch, eat, and see.

My favorite food blogger is "in town" on a book tour! Gaby Dalkin from What's Gaby Cooking will be at the Williams Sonoma at the Mall at Short Hills on Saturday, May 5th and in King of Prussia on May 6th signing copies of her second cookbook. Tickets are $32 and include a copy of the book to be signed by Gaby. More info here.

While at the Mall at Short Hills, stop by the Tory Burch store to do some Mother's Day shopping. When you spend $250 or more, you can custom create your own flower bouquet. Plus, Tory Burch's traveling embroiderer will be available to hand stitch your (or Mom's) initials onto your sweater or scarf purchase.

I can't remember where I first saw a recommendation for Kodachrome on Netflix, but since seeing the initial one, I've had several friends post recs on Facebook as well. It stars Jason Sudekis (love him!) as Matt, a struggling executive who is down on his professional luck of late. When Matt thinks things couldn't get any worse at the office, he finds his world turned upside down when he finds out that his his estranged father, a famed bad-boy photojournalist, is facing terminal cancer and his dying wish is for Matt to join him on a road trip from New York to Kansas to process his last rolls of Kodachrome film before the sole remaining lab closes and those captured moments are gone forever.

It was a slow to get moving movie but once the pace picked up a bit, it was a heartwarming story. Watch it!

Water. Water. Can't live without it, but most people think it's so bland on it's own. Enter infused water. Infusing water with fruits, veggies, and herbs is a great way to add flavor to your water and is a wonderful incentive to drink more H2O. You can go simple and just add a few slices of cucumbers, or orange wedges. Or you can go big and make any one of these tasty concoctions.

I've recently significantly scaled back my Starbucks habit in both an effort to save money and because I haven't been craving it very much. And boy, have I realized how much money I was needlessly spending on coffee each week. For every day I haven't gone to Starbucks, I've put $5 in an envelope. It adds up fast! I'm always looking for ways to cut costs in order to save for something else. This article has some great suggestions that are super easy to implement but make a big impact on the bottom line.

So, tell me. What do you have planned this weekend?
