Weekend Dispatch

Last weekend was like summer revisited. The weather was perfect...low 80s and it was gloriously sunny and mild. Rather than hit the gym, I took my exercise outside and took advantage of the weather. Days like those are few and far between. Just last week I was practically shivering at Harper's field hockey game. Not kidding. This week, I am catching up on everything I put aside over the weekend to enjoy the weather.

Here's what else I'm up to this week:

James Nord is the founder of Fohr, an influencer marketing platform. Now, before you say that you aren't in an influencer so this has no bearing on your life, hear me out. Each week James hosts "A Drink with James", a vlog where he spews what he's thinking/feeling or sometimes it's an interview with someone in the digital marketing/influencer space. This video dropped yesterday, and I never watch these, but the email title caught my attention (fab email marketing effort!), and I watched. I am so glad I did. I originally wanted to hear what James had to say about buying followers, but I ended up loving what he said about how Instagram has basically ruined the travel industry by taking out the element of surprise from it. We now know what popular destinations look like because they are plastered all over Instagram. So true.

I love trendy coffee shops, but I have a tendency to hit up Starbucks out of convenience. There's one close to my gym, and it's so easy to swing by there after my workout. But I've been making an effort, especially when I travel, to seek out local coffee shops rather than opening my Starbucks app and finding the closest location. When we were in Rehoboth Beach last month, a new coffee shop caught my eye. Rise Up (see photo above) is everything Instagram posts are made for. Trendy, black and white color scheme, great ambience and interior design. This weekend challenge yourself to find a new coffee shop, grab a cup and linger. You won't regret it.

It's pumpkin spice season, and that means all the pumpkin spice all the time. While I'm not one of those crazies who loves all the pumpkin spice things, I do occasionally enjoy a pumpkin-themed baked good. Two of my favorite sweet treats are brownies and blondies. I love the texture of a brownie as opposed to cake or bread. When I came across a recipe for pumpkin blondies, I made a note to make them over the weekend. I'll let you know how they turn out!

I usually get recommendations for podcasts from friends or from blog posts. But earlier this week, I decided to browse the podcasts section in Spotify and found History Chicks. This podcast explores famous women throughout history and some of the lesser known facts about these women. Not all are historical figures. Some are in the entertainment industry, some are writers, and some are artists. If you are looking to drop a few random facts at the next dinner party, give this podcast a listen.

For my local Jersey shore friends, I'll be attending a birthday party on Saturday at PedalCycle in Asbury Park. If you aren't familiar, it's a 15-passenger party bike. Think of it as a bar hop on a bike. Pedal, drink, repeat! I'll let you know how it goes in next week's dispatch.

Have a great weekend! xx
