The Books I Read in October

Monday, November 23, 2020

I've got some catching up to do in the books department! As much as I enjoy writing these posts and looking back and reflecting on past reads, it's a lot of work to compile the information and present it clearly and concisely. There are countless times I've sat down to write these recap posts, and I've said to myself, "I'll come back to it after I read a chapter in my current book." Ha! A chapter becomes two or three and then it's time to make dinner or workout, and I never get to the post. So, I had to set a reminder on my phone and put it on my Must Do list in order to absolutely accomplish it today.

Here we go. Here are the three books I read in October.

The Books I Read in July

Tuesday, August 18, 2020

Last month in addition to reading two Elin Hilderbrand novels, I also had a chance to meet her and have a book signed by her. I was thrilled!!! After coming off my high from reading 28 Summers, her latest release which came out earlier this summer, I couldn't wait to meet her. I was definitely fangirling. I attended the signing with my girlfriend Cathy, who is also a fan. It was a highlight in an otherwise strange and different summer.

OK, so now on to the books I read in July:

The Books I Read In June

Wednesday, July 22, 2020

June was a really good month for books. I read 4 books in total, and all of them were top notch. It's amazing how fast I read when I really enjoy a book. I'm struggling a bit right now since I just finished Elin Hilderbrand's latest release, 28 Summers, and OMG! It was sooooo good that any book I pick up just doesn't compare. So I am in a bit of a reading rut right now. I have about 4 books going, and I just can't keep on task with any one of them. I've been switching back and forth and that is not conducive to reading retention or to finishing a book. I am still ahead of schedule to finish 40 books this year, so at least theres' that.

Here are the books I read in June.

The Books I Read In May

Monday, June 22, 2020

May kicked off the unofficial start to summer reading season. I have a pretty ambitious summer reading list which I'll share later this week, but for now, we'll just have to chat about the three books I read last month. I tend to get stuck in a particular genre of books (I'm looking at you chick lit and psychological thrillers), but I am trying to break out of the pattern and read a variety of different types from non-fiction (biographies, true crime) to classic literature (Pride and Prejudice). I've included a wide variety on my summer reading list, and I can't wait to share it with you. For now, here are the books I read in May.

What We're Reading

Monday, June 8, 2020

This week I've taken a step back from the blog and social media to listen, learn, reflect, and take in all that is going on in this country with civil rights and racial relations. These issues have a long history in this country. And while I know a lot more now than I did even a week ago, I still have a lot to learn. One of the ways I am empowering myself to become better educated as well as support BIPOC is through books. I'm using my love of reading as a mechanism to become anti-racist and to support Black authors.

Here are the books we are currently reading in light of the current state of events:

The Books I Read In April

Wednesday, May 6, 2020

After a strong January and February and a weak March in terms of reading, I started to pick up the pace again in April. Once I start a book, no matter how far into it I am, I feel obligated to keep reading it, especially if I've paid for it. But I've been slow to realize that when I am not enjoying a book, it takes me forever to read it because I don't make reading a priority. It's more of a chore when I'm not loving, or even liking, the book I'm reading. So, moving forward, I've decided to abandon books when I am not feeling it. Maybe I'll go back to them at another time, but if, after a few chapters, I can tell that I'm not entertained, the book will be shelved.

Here are the books that I read in April and the one that gave me pause to start shelving those that don't hold my interest.

The Books I Read in February and March

Monday, April 20, 2020

February started off strong in terms of reading, but by mid-month, I had faded a bit, and then once March came and the quarantine was ordered, I had a hard time focusing long enough to read more than a few pages at a sitting. Because of that, I've combined February and March into one post.

Now, I am back on track and plowing through the books again. But before I get too far ahead of myself, here are the books I read in February and March.

The Books I Read In January

Wednesday, March 11, 2020

This post is wayyyyy late, I know. It's been a minute since I've had a chance to sit down and devote time to writing this long post. It's an in depth one since January was a very productive month for reading. It was a combination of kicking off the year with a new reading goal and being overly eager to smash it and having a list of really good books to read. 📚 From the moment the clock struck 12 am on January 1, 2020, I hit the books. Literally, I took a single sip of prosecco and moved on to reading! By the middle of the month, I had 4 books read and was on a roll!

What We're Reading

Monday, January 20, 2020

I always thought that most of my reading happened during the summer months when I have a more relaxed schedule and spend weekends at the beach or by the pool. But this winter has proven me wrong. This month alone I've read five books and am already 12% of the way to my goal of 40 books this year. Maybe it's that I've gotten more in tune with what I like to read or maybe it's that my tastes in books is not as singular as it used to be (chick lit). Either way, I've been plowing through the books and genuinely enjoying them all. I just finished The Tattooist of Auschwitz, and if you haven't read it, it is a must. Definitely one of the best books I've read in a long time.

The Books I Read in December

Monday, January 6, 2020

Surprisingly, as busy as December was, it was also a productive month for reading. It helped that I had a Goodreads reading goal of 30 books to reach and the books that I chose were page turners, and I could hardly put them down. In the interest of full disclosure, one of the books I read was started in mid-November and finished on December 1st, so technically, it wasn't read in December. But I am including it here since it was the only book I read in November.

The Books I Read in October

Tuesday, November 26, 2019

One of my friends read 6 books last month. What? How does she do that? I wish there were more hours in the day to read. There are so many books to read and so little time. Speaking of so little time, I was able to read only two books this month. Both of them were quick reads that I thoroughly enjoyed. I highly recommend both of these books. They are definitely page-turners! I'm 3 books away from meeting my reading goal for the year, and I'm not sure I'll be able to do it with the holidays coming up, but I'm going to give myself a pep talk and go for it and maybe even exceed my goal by one book.

The Books I Read In September

Tuesday, October 15, 2019

Last month, I made one final push to get through a few books from my summer reading list. I veered from the list slightly after having been given books by friends and family and finding a few bargain books at the store, but I really tried to stick as closely to the list as possible. By summer's end (September 21) I read a total of 13 books with six of those being from my summer reading list. I didn't tackle every book on my summer reading list, but I did exceed my reading goal of 12 books.

Here are the books I read in September:

The Books I Read in August

Monday, September 23, 2019

August was definitely a productive month for reading. I plowed through four books with ease and knocked a few more books off my summer reading list. It helped that each book I read this month was better than the last. There are four good ones here, so if you are looking for your next great read, you might find it here.

Here are the four books I read in August:

A Curve in the Road by Julianne MacLean    4.5/5 stars
There's a lot I loved about this book, and one of the things is that it picks up speed quickly. The book begins with a shocking car accident and everything unravels from there with plenty of surprises and twists throughout the book. The main character, Abbie, whose life seems perfect and idyllic soon learns that not all is as it seems.

The Books I Read In July

Friday, August 23, 2019

Thanks to an extended July 4th weekend and great weather, I was able to blow through three books this month and get a sizable chunk of my first book for August out of the way. In case you need a refresher, here's my summer reading list. I am trying to stick to it as closely as possible, but sometimes I get books from friends and I need to read that one as soon as possible so that I can pass it along to the next friend in our book group. Two of the books I read last month are on my summer reading list, and the other one was a book I picked up on sale that once I started reading it, I couldn't put it down.

What We're Reading

Monday, August 19, 2019
Greetings from Rehoboth Beach, my home until Saturday. We are here with my sisters and their families for a week of rest, relaxation, recharging, and family bonding. This is our 13th consecutive August doing this trip, and each year is better than the last. There is so much I look forward to on this trip from the food to the beach to fun, family times, but one of my favorites is just relaxing with a GREAT beach read. I spend a lot of time laboring over choosing a book (or two) for this trip. Part of what makes this trip memorable is the books that I read during our time here.

Here are the books we'll be reading this week:

What We're Reading

Monday, July 29, 2019

I am almost half way to my my 2019 Goodreads reading challenge goal of 35 books. I am finishing up book number 17 this week and am deciding on book 18. I like to move right to the next book without missing a beat so I keep my momentum going. I'll be choosing a book from my summer reading list. If there's a book on here that you'd recommend, please leave a comment to let me know which one. Thanks! xx

The Books I Read In June

Monday, July 15, 2019

I have a lot of ground to make up this summer if I plan to meet my goal of 35 books in 2019. I'm currently at 14 books and almost finished with the 15th book. But it's more than half way through the year, and I am just short of my half way goal. So, I've got to kick it up a notch. June was not a productive month as far as reading went. The end of the school year will do that to you. Anyway, here's to hoping I can get through at least three books this month!

My Summer Reading List

Friday, June 21, 2019

It's the first day of summer, and I can't think of a better way of kicking it off than sharing my summer reading list. I spend a lot of time reading in the summer...like close to a book per week. Up until about a year ago, I had a roller coaster relationship with reading since my college days where I read constantly since I was an English major. Over the years, I've gone in and out of phases where I devour books and then avoid them. But for a year now, I've been consistently reading and looking forward to the next great read.

So, here are the books I plan to read this summer:

What We're Reading

Monday, June 17, 2019

This is the last week of school before summer break. We've been creating summer reading lists and bucket lists like crazy. Although the weather lately hasn't felt at all summer-like, I know we are on the cusp of warm days that beg for reading by the pool or beach. When it finally happens, we'll be ready for it!

The Books I Read In May

Monday, June 3, 2019

This month was a bit of a struggle to get through even two books. For starters, I watched Dead To Me, so that took up a chunk of my time. If you haven't watched it, I highly recommend it. It's sooo good. Some of my friends have even binge watched it in 2 days. I took a little more time than that, but it really is that good. Anyway, back to the books. I made it through two books last month, and really need to pick up my pace if I want to reach my goal of 35 books this year (I'm currently at 13 🤦🏼‍♀️). I'm hoping that with summer here, I'll have more opportunities to kick back and read at the beach, pool, or just here at home.
