What We're Reading

Monday, August 19, 2019
Greetings from Rehoboth Beach, my home until Saturday. We are here with my sisters and their families for a week of rest, relaxation, recharging, and family bonding. This is our 13th consecutive August doing this trip, and each year is better than the last. There is so much I look forward to on this trip from the food to the beach to fun, family times, but one of my favorites is just relaxing with a GREAT beach read. I spend a lot of time laboring over choosing a book (or two) for this trip. Part of what makes this trip memorable is the books that I read during our time here.

Here are the books we'll be reading this week:

What I'm Reading: Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid
I've wanted to read this book for a while now, and when I found the hardcover 30% off at Target, I scooped up the last book on the shelf. It's a gripping story of a band that splits up at the height of their popularity in the early 70s. When Daisy Jones combines with the group The Six, their combination is legendary. But just as easily as they came together, they split, leaving fans wondering what went wrong. An addicting coming-of-age story.

What Emma's Reading: The Rest of the Story by Sarah Dessen
Emma Saylor grapples with two opposing identities in this story. One is the one her dad assigns to her, and the other is the one her deceased mother had given her before her death. Emma doesn't want to lose the identity associated with her mother because it could mean betraying her mother. But is the identity her father associates with Emma the real Emma?

What Harper's Reading: It Started With Goodbye by Christina June
Think of this book as a modern day Cinderella. When 16-year old Tatum is falsely accused of a crime and must pay the price, she learns some life lessons the hard way. Her stepmother shows no mercy, but Tatum soon discovers that she's not the only one in the house who's keeping secrets.
