Weekend Dispatch

Tuesday, April 10, 2018

After enduring a never-ending winter, it seems there's light at the end of the tunnel in the form of the upcoming weekend's weather (woohoo!). With hints of 70 degrees on Saturday (and my kids have a snow make up day - yes, on the weekend!), I am planning all the outdoor activities starting with a long walk followed by enjoying an iced coffee at an outdoor café.

Here's what else is shaking this weekend.

Hey Jersey foodies! Jersey Shore Restaurant Week kicks off this Friday, April 13th and continues through April 22nd. In addition to special eventsparticipating restaurants are offering a special menu deal where you can enjoy a 3-course meal including an appetizer, entree, and dessert for a fixed price of either $22.18 or $32.18. There are lots of great deals to take advantage of if you've been wanting to check out a restaurant, and a slew of restaurants have been added to the JSRW roster this year.

April is Earth Month, and even the smallest of changes can make a significant impact on our planet for future generations. If you want to lessen your carbon footprint but aren't sure where to start, Well+Good has a wealth of resources and articles to help you get started. From make-your-own cleaning products to reusable coffee mugs to ways to reduce your plastic use, Well+Good makes going green simple and fun.

I finally finished watching The Crown yesterday on Netflix. It took me a while to get through it, probably because I was constantly stopping to Google people. The members of the Royal Family are truly a fascinating bunch, and it's easy to get pulled into the rabbit hole reading article after article online. Anyway, I needed a bit of switch after watching that so I've moved on to season one of  Imposters. Con artist Maddie leaves a trail of broken hearts in her wake after she takes them for everything they own. While she's moved on to her latest conquest, the two men and a woman she has jolted team up to track her down and expose her.

It's spring cleaning season, but if you're like I am, you find the whole process to be a necessary evil. I know it's something I need to do (and even want to do), but where on Earth do I start? I have an attic full of junk that's lingering from my daughters' younger years not to mention tackling my house, you know, the most lived in (and bound to be the dirtiest) area of the house. I came across this article on Lifehacker with tips for where to start and a breakdown of what to do in each room.

Here's a helpful infographic on what to throw away/donate/keep, etc.

With summer-like weather predicted for the weekend, it's the perfect reason to whip up a pasta salad with lots of fresh, healthy ingredients. This Southwest tortellini pasta salad has all my favorite ingredients and takes less than 30 minutes to make. That's my kind of meal!

So, tell me. What do you have planned this weekend?
