Weekend Dispatch

This coming weekend is the last weekend before we leave for Captiva, Florida. This is an annual trip for us and one we look forward to pretty much from the day we leave the year prior. While I'm sure this weekend will be filled with packing and last minute preparations, I do plan to squeeze in a few fun things and some downtime too.

Here's what I'll be up to this weekend:

In the past, I've been a notorious over-packer. But this year for our trip to Captiva, I vow that things will be different. I did really well for our trip to Salt Lake City and Alta, UT, so I am hoping to employ some of the strategies I used for that trip. Also, I recently bought new (and smaller) luggage, so I have the added challenge of fitting my stuff into a smaller space. I've been reading this article by Jen Rubio, the founder of the luggage company Away. She shares her strategies for packing only what she needs (and how to determine what that it). If you've got an upcoming trip, check it out.

This week I posted the 8 books that I've read recently. If you are looking for a few good recs, you definitely want to check it out.

Last week I noticed that Amanda Peet was making the rounds on the morning talk shows (thank goodness for gym TVs!). I've always liked her. Does anyone remember Jack & Jill? It was a short-lived series from the late 90s starring Peet. I loved that show and was disappointed to see it go, but thrilled to see that she's back and starring in The Romanoffs on Amazon Prime Video. Mad Men creator Matthew Weinberg is behind The Romanoffs, so expect to see some crossover actors, including John Slattery and Christina Hendricks. The Romanoffs is an anthology series that tells stories of people who believe that they are descendants of a Russian royal family. Each episode takes place in a new location, with filming occurring on three continents, and with a new cast in each episode. The reviews have been mixed, but the cast is top notch as are the settings and set designs.

Who overindulged during the Halloween season? 🙋‍♀️ Those snack size candy bars always get the best of me. I think I'm being good, but clearly eating 10 snack size bars is greater than eating one regular sized bar. Boo! With a vacation on the horizon, I need to kick the detox into high gear. While most of us tend to think of detox foods and drinks as something green and disgusting, that couldn't be further from the truth. Here are a few of my favorite detox recipes to try in the wake of Halloween.

Some people are "pumpkin spice" people. They love all things pumpkin. I am not one of those people. In fact, I despise most things pumpkin unless it's pie. In which case, give me all the pie. I was surprised to find myself listening to the Pumpkin Spice Latte playlist on Spotify this week...and actually loving it! You can listen to it HERE.

So, tell me. What do you have planned this weekend?
