How To Create The Perfect Home Office

Tuesday, June 9, 2020

When the COVID-19 quarantine was handed down, many people found themselves in a situation where they were required to continue working...but they had to do it from their homes. Now that many countries are slowly opening up using a multi-phase approach, many employers are giving employees the option to permanently telecommute. For many, permanently working from home is attractive as it allows for greater flexibility to tend to your family as well as provide for them.

I've been telecommuting for eight years, and although I love the freedom and flexibility, it's not without its challenges. Here are three things that have helped me to effectively work from home, avoid distractions, and do my job successfully.

What Does Your Dream Home Look Like?

Friday, April 3, 2020

Since being quarantined almost 4 weeks ago, I've been spending a lot more time (WAY too much) on Pinterest. Obviously, I've been looking for recipes ideas (aren't we all?). I've also been basking in all the pretty pictures, whether they are travel pics, food pics, fashion pics, or insightful quotes. But the type of pictures I seem to be the most fascinated by are the home pictures. Maybe it's because I've been spending so much time in mine that I just want to look at everyone else's. We all want to live in beautiful, grand surroundings. But due to money and resource constraints, that isn't always possible. That's where your imagination comes in. I've come across some pictures of home features that I had no idea existed. I'm not kidding when I say there are some really far out houses out there. Here are a few of the things I might include in the dream home of my imagination.

Tips For Keeping Your Bedroom Clutter-Free

Tuesday, September 24, 2019

It’s common for bedrooms to get cluttered with stuff. Many of us don’t see this as an issue – the bedroom may well be the one room that you don’t allow guests in, so who cares if it’s messy? I am guilty of using our bedroom as a dumping ground for all the things. Books, clothes, extra pieces of furniture. Somehow it all ends up in the bedroom.

Unfortunately, a cluttered bedroom could be causing you to lose sleep. Many people find it harder to fall asleep when surrounded by clutter because the brain subconsciously feels there’s work still to be done. When your bedroom is tidy, you’re more likely to feel at peace and therefore more easily able to get to sleep.

On top of this, decluttering is useful simply for keeping your bedroom organized. You can access the things you need more easily – which can mean less stress when getting ready in the morning.

To help keep your bedroom clutter-free, here are just several steps that you can take.

Tips For Maintaining Your Carpets At Home

Saturday, July 20, 2019
A carpet in the home is by far the most popular choice for most homeowners. Our entire house has hardwood floors. I love the way hardwoods look and the fact that they are low maintenance (until they need to be refinished!). But they don’t help much in the way of comfort or energy saving. Carpets are comfortable underneath bare feet, and they trap a lot of heat. They also trap dirt, debris and bacteria, which hardwood floors don't. Each style of flooring does have its advantages and disadvantages. When it comes to looking after a hardwood flooring, it's not that difficult to know the basics. Hardwood floors can be mopped, little bits of wood that have been chipped off can be glued back on, and if the floor loses its finish, you can always varnish or buffer it. However for carpets it's a lot more difficult. Whether you are dealing with area carpets, throw rugs, or wall to wall carpeting, there is a process that you must adhere to, to get the best kind of maintenance you can.

Selling Your Home? Don't Drop Your Asking Price

Sunday, October 14, 2018

Later this year, I'll be taking a real estate sales course. It's a 75 hour course that prepares you for becoming a real estate sales agent. I've been looking for flexible ways to supplement my income, and real estate sales is the likely path for me. In preparation for the course, I've been researching the industry. If you currently have a house on the market, here's an argument for why you should think twice before dropping your asking price.

There are so many other alternatives to dropping your asking price such as investing in a home stager, re-assessing your marketing strategy, and more.

6 Sins of Old Homes

Friday, October 5, 2018

The search for the perfect home isn't an easy one. The variety of properties available on the market, from a tiny apartment in a buzzing city center to a cute bungalow in the suburbs, from an old mansion filled with dust and stories on the outskirt of town to a stone cottage on a hill, makes it difficult to narrow down what exactly you want in a home.

The answer might be surprising for many, but one of the key criteria for home buyers is the homeliness of a house. Admittedly, it doesn’t mean that factors such as budget, location, and the number of bedrooms have no impact on the final decision. They definitely matter and are essential to the final decision. However, when given a choice between a brand new property that has just been built and an old house that has seen several generations growing up, first-time buyers are more likely to pick the old house.

Wednesday, October 3, 2018

I have a love-hate relationship with my bedroom. I love it because it's my sanctuary at the end of a day. It's where I go to rest, relax, and recharge. But it's also a source of stress for me. It's often cluttered and a dumping ground for every item I can't seem to find a place for somewhere else in our home.

Each and every one of us deserves a beautiful bedroom - a space we can retreat from the world, rest, relax, and recoup. As moms, we spend our days looking after others and so when we finally do get some alone time it’s good to have a space to relax in that we really enjoy. You probably don’t get all that much sleep or time to yourself as a busy parent, but a lovely bedroom to turn in to at the end of each day is something that all of us can appreciate. If yours isn’t up to scratch, here are some of the ways you can give it a refresh.

People use mirrors for a lot of reasons. You probably don’t even know how much you use your mirrors until you really sit and think about it. You roll out of bed and head to the bathroom to do your teeth and morning skincare and boom – mirror. You head to the closet to choose your clothes and boom – mirror. You put your coat and scarf on before you leave the house and boom – mirror. Everywhere you go, you see you, so it makes sense that a big part of the décor in our homes involves mirrors.

For many people, they’re a necessity for everyday living; even if you’re not the type of person to check your teeth in every reflective surface. There are so many benefits to adding mirrors to your home, and it’s not always because you want a quick glance at your appearance! Your home can benefit from many accents and upgrades, but mirrors are one of the best decorative investments you can make, especially since they are inexpensive. Change the way your home looks and you won’t look back on your choice of mirror décor.

Here are some of the ways that your home can really benefit from having more mirrors on the walls.
