Augmenting Your Looks: 4 Most Popular Types of Plastic Surgery

Wednesday, August 14, 2019

Most of us want to look our best at all times and often turn to plastic surgery to achieve that goal. This is true for men and women alike, as more men are now opting to undergo procedures to change their appearance for the better. Yesterday I wrote about the reasons cosmetic surgery could have a positive impact on your life. Today, we are taking a look at commonly requested procedures and what each involves.

Rhinoplasty
Rhinoplasty is a surgery used to reshape the nose in one or more ways. Most people assume this is strictly a cosmetic procedure, but doctors also recommend it when a person is experiencing breathing issues due to a structural malformation. For example, a person with a deviated septum benefits from rhinoplasty. With this procedure, a person finds they are able to achieve the correct proportion along with facial balance. Speak to a reputable surgeon to get nose surgery information and determine if this procedure is what you need to obtain your desired goals.

Tummy Tuck
A tummy tuck helps to remove excess skin and fat from the abdominal area while restoring separated or weakened muscles in the area. Often referred to as abdominoplasty, this procedure results in an abdominal profile that is both firm and smooth. While the procedure doesn't replace a healthy diet, weight loss, and exercise, it benefits those who find their abdomen is protruding or loose and sagging.
Common causes for this include getting older, genetics, previous surgeries, weight fluctuations, and pregnancy. Nevertheless, this surgery doesn't address stretch marks on the stomach, and individuals need to determine if another procedure will be desired to accomplish this goal. The surgeon can be of help in determining which treatment options are best for the patient's goals.

Liposuction
Liposuction is a procedure used to slim and/or reshape a specific area of the body. During the surgery, excess fat deposits are removed and the surgeon alters the contours of the body and the proportion. The procedure can be used in different areas of the body to achieve the anticipated results, including the upper arms, the chest, the thighs, and the abdomen. However, this surgery does not address loose, saggy skin and it won't remove cellulite. If these are part of the treatment goals, the patient must discuss this with the surgeon to see what additional procedures might be needed.

Breast Augmentation
When people think of breast augmentation, they automatically assume a female undergoes this procedure to make her breasts larger. This is not always the reason behind the procedure, though. Women may also elect to have this surgery to restore breast volume following pregnancy or weight loss, to improve the symmetry of the breasts, or to obtain a breast shape that is more rounded.

However, the procedure cannot treat droopy breasts, and a breast lift may be needed in conjunction with the augmentation. Women need to be aware that the procedure might need to be completed again in the future, as pregnancy and other factors can negatively impact the results. A surgeon discusses this procedure with the woman, the benefits and drawbacks, and more to determine if this is the right procedure for her needs.

This list does not take into account minimally invasive cosmetic procedures, such as Botox and other dermal fillers. If you are not happy with your appearance, speak to a surgeon to learn more about the options. As long as you go in with reasonable expectations, most people will find cosmetic surgery of some kind is ideal for achieving their goals.
