Weekend Dispatch

We returned from a week in Rehoboth Beach on Saturday evening. After unloading the car, I decided to unpack everything. This is a different approach than I normally take. In the past, I'd set aside Sunday morning to do all the unpacking. But this year, I wanted to go into my Sunday with everything unpacked, laundered, and put away. It was such a nice feeling to know that Sunday was completely wide open to decompress from vacation and prepare to re-enter reality come Monday morning. I'm definitely planning on using this approach when we go to Captiva in November.

Now that the unpacking is finished, here's how I'll be spending my week and weekend ahead:

Climate change is a hot topic theses days. With plastic straws and bags being banned to cosmetic companies focusing on producing natural products to sustainable farming practices becoming more and more popular, going green has never been more chic. And now the textile industry is hopping on board. Last week Nordstrom introduced an easy way to shop fashions made from sustainably sourced fabrics. Nordstrom has devoted a section of its site to Sustainable Style & You. It features brands that are making responsible shopping easier to find, shop, and support. Check it out and shop it here.

On Sunday night, the fifth and final season of The Affair debuted, and it was a good one! I tried watching The Affair when it debuted on Showtime in the fall of 2014, but for reason, I just couldn't connect with it. Last winter, at friend's urging, I gave it another shot. Not sure what was different for me, but the second time around, I couldn't stop watching. I think I binged 4 seasons in less than two weeks. And now season 5 had kicked off and promises to be the one to tie up all loose ends, answer all your questions, and leave a lasting impression on you.

When Taylor Swift hit the pop music scene back in 2006, I have to admit that I wasn't a fan. Her music appealed to a younger demographic and conjured up images of screaming girls at waiting to catch a glimpse at a mall appearance. Not exactly my scene. But years later in 2012 when she released Red, I was all over it. She and her music had matured and reached a level that was not only tolerable but enjoyable for me (I'm really not the music snob I sound like here). Ever since then she's had hit or miss releases for me, and her latest release Lover is a hit! Aside from one or two songs that just don't strike a chord (pun intended!) with me, every song on this album is worth listening to over and over again. I got sucked in when the video for "You Need To Calm Down" went viral on Facebook last month, but I especially like "Lover", "The Archer", "The Man", and "It's Nice To Have A Friend". Listen here.

It's hard to believe that this weekend is Labor Day weekend. Where did the summer go? In the blink it was gone. If you are planning to entertain this weekend, this red, white, and blue sangria is a crowd-pleaser that's easy to make.

If you are local to the Jersey shore, there are sure to be lots of fireworks happening up and down the coast for the holiday weekend. Also, one of my favorite bands, Umphrey's McGee, is playing the Stone Pony Summer Stage on Friday.

So, tell me. What do you have planned this weekend?
