My Favorite Moments from 2017

Another year down, and another chance to reflect. 2017 was filled with highs and lows. There were plenty of good times and bad, but as always the good far outweigh the bad. As I was recently cleaning up my photos in iPhoto, I realized all the things I did in 2017. Here are a few of my favorite moments.

1. Our trip to Tucson - In April we spent part of spring break in Tucson and Phoenix, Arizona. Although I had previously visited Phoenix, Tucson was a new destination for me. I fell in love hard with Tucson and its breathtaking mountains and cacti-dotted desert. From start to end, it was an amazing vacation filled with new adventures and delicious foods and a visit with two of my three sisters.

2. My niece Ashley's wedding - In September, my niece Ashley was married at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. She was an absolutely stunning bride with a gorgeous backdrop for her wedding vows and celebration afterwards. It was a wonderful day spent with the Hubs' family celebrating the love of a happy couple.

3. Our cat Sam being discharged from the hospital - In August our cat Sam was diagnosed with FLUTD (feline urinary track disorder). His bladder was blocked and he had to undergo emergency medical care to unblock him and flush struvite crystals from his bladder. He remained in the hospital for several days where we were able to visit him. But it wasn't until he was released that I was able to breathe easier. Our home just wasn't the same without him there.

4. Our annual trip to Florida - We made our annual trek to southwest Florida in November, but this time we ended the trip with a weekend in Naples (we usually go to South Beach). It was so beautiful and relaxing and definitely a different vibe from South Beach. I love this family trip since it offers us a chance to be together away from the daily grind. I am very aware that in a few years when Emma is in college, the dynamics of this trip will be completely different. :-(

5. A week in Rehoboth Beach with my sisters - Every August, my sisters and I and our respective families head to Rehoboth Beach, Delaware for a week. Rehoboth holds special memories for my three sisters and me as it is the place where we spent childhood vacations. To share this tradition with our children is priceless.

6. Harper's 5th grade graduation - In June Harper graduated from elementary school. It was bittersweet. I knew she was ready to move on to more independence and responsibility, but she'll always be my little baby.

7. Emma's first lacrosse game - I was filled with pride when Emma took to the field to play in her first lacrosse game of her high school career. It's a very proud parent moment when you see your child working as part of a team and playing hard to accomplish a goal.

8. My 50th birthday - Earlier this month I turned 50. Rather than view this milestone as a negative, I've been focusing on the positives. Since turning 49 last year, I've focused on my health (exercising more and cleaning up my diet) in anticipation of my 50th birthday. I've centered more on self-care and taking care of me as I start aging. I'm embracing 50 rather than fearing it!

9. JDRF One Walk - Since October 2014, we've been walking as a team in the JDRF One Walk in Avon-By-Sea, New Jersey. It's always such an inspiring event when you see all those with type 1 diabetes walking and the amazing, supportive friends and family. It's an event that Harper loves because it brings together our family and friends, and even though she doesn't know most of the people walking, it gives her a chance to see that she is not alone.

10. Radio City Music Hall Christmas Spectacular - We've seen this show many times, but it never gets old. This year we were in the front row and enjoyed an up close and personal view. My favorite part is the march of the wooden soldiers. It never ceases to amaze me the skill, precision, and synchronization that the Rockettes possess.
