Weekend Dispatch

As we head into the last weekend before Christmas, I've got a to-do list that's a mile long (anyone else?) I'm trying to wrap up work commitments and blog posts this week so I can relax next week. I'm heading to a cookie exchange on Sunday evening (more about that below), and I also have gift wrapping to start. But, I always make time for downtime, and here's how I plan to spend the few spare moments I have this week.

When I watched the 2018 Golden Globes awards almost a year ago, I promised myself that I'd watch The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (on Amazon Prime Video) after it cleaned up at the awards. A month passed, and another month went by, and I still hadn't started watching. And then a few weeks ago the second season came out, and I decided to watch season 1. I love it! Mrs. Maisel is so spirited and spunky. I love her energy and her ambition.

As I mentioned above, I'll be attending a cookie exchange on Sunday evening. About 8 of my girlfriends and I do this every Christmas. It's a great way to get lots of cookies and different varieties without doing all the baking. Plus, it's an excellent excuse to get together for a glass (or two) of wine! Most years I make spritz cookies using a cookie gun. It's super quick and easy, but this year, I want to make something different and can't decide on a cookie. I'm thinking about making these peppermint meltaway cookies, secret ingredient Christmas cookies, or white chocolate peppermint pretzels (which technically aren't a cookie but are still a delicious treat).

Who has read Michelle Obama's book Becoming? It's been on my list to read since it was released, and I've heard AWESOME things about it. As a prelude to reading it, I've just listened to Oprah's two-part podcast with Michelle Obama, and it only made me even more eager to read the book. Ahhh. What a breath of fresh air Obama is. From her humble beginnings in Chicago to where she is now, she just gets it. I really love her message for women and girls. You can listen to the podcast HERE, and if you are so inclined, Oprah's SuperSoul Conversations podcast series is phenomenal no matter who her guest is. And, if you've read the book, please leave me a comment and let me know what you thought.

We host Christmas dinner every year. There have been years where there have been close to 20 people at dinner and years where there have been less than 10. This year, we are anticipating a small group, and so, I've decided to make these super cute place cards for our guests. They don't look crazy difficult or time consuming. Just my kind of craft!

So, tell me. What do you have planned this weekend?

Wishing everyone a very happy holiday season! Weekend Dispatch will be back in January 2019. In the meantime, if you have any recommendations for what to include in Weekend Dispatch, please send them to me at info@piecesofamom.com. xx
