Goodbye Sweet Freedom

Friday, June 5, 2009
I love summer...for many reasons, way too many to count and display here. But on June 22, Emma's last day of school, I can kiss my sweet freedom goodbye. Well, what small freedom I have considering I am still home all day with a 3 year old.

Don't get me wrong. Don't peg me as a deadbeat mom. I am anything but. I just have to say that it's her first two weeks out of school and the final two weeks before the new school year begins that are the hardest. It's quite a transition. She's gone for 7 hours a day, 5 days a week for almost 10 months out of the year. And then, bam! She's home for 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for 2 months straight. It's an adjustment to say the least.

She's never gone to camp. I think she'd enjoy it, but I've never pushed it. Because we live at the beach, I've always felt as though our summers should be spent at the beach rather than at camp. However, this summer I will get a slight reprieve for 2 hours a day, 2 days a week. Emma is enrolling in a creative dramatics class at the local high school. Through word of mouth, I've learned that this class is absolutely fabulous. She's excited. I'm excited. And we'll still have plenty of time for the beach, day trips, and any other summer fun!

See...and I was counting the days until it was the last day of school!!! That must be the teacher perspective. I think the transitions are the TOUGHEST part...it is hard on everyone!
Good for you for having Emma take a summer class...she'll have a blast!! You need to try to find time to do some "Sheila" things during the summer, too!
