The end of the summer is stretching on, but there’s a distinct chill in the
air now. Fall is most definitely on the way, and within a few short weeks,
we will get to see nature’s stunning transformation as the leaves change
color and the nights draw in. It means an end to the barbeques, the evening
meals out on the deck on a warm evening. Instead, it’s all about cozy
blankets, snuggly pajamas and pumpkin spice lattes! The change of season is likely
to inspire a change in your makeup bag, wardrobe and home too. It can be
fun to update things for fall and enjoy the changing weather. Here’s how
I go about it.
1. In My Home
Updating your home for the colder seasons generally involves making it as
cozy as possible. I replace thin summer blankets and throws with warmer
duvets. Invest in some flannel or brushed cotton sheets that leave you
feeling ultra snuggly and warm. You could add thicker curtains to your
windows, and add a
fall-inspired accent color to your home. If your decor is quite neutral, replacing things like throws,
cushion covers, lampshades and flowers with an autumnal color is a great
way to celebrate the season. Warm oranges, terracottas, and golds work well.
Rich purple, navy blue, and even khaki will also work as they will bring in
contrast and make the home look ready for the season ahead. Finally, adding
some
festive fall fragrance to the home is a smart move. Fall fruits, warm vanilla, and spices will
help to create a beautiful ambiance. Use plug in air fresheners, reed
diffusers, and scented soy candles to achieve this.
2. In My Wardrobe
The change in weather means an update in your closet is needed. I love summer clothing, so I am always somewhat reluctant to make way for fall clothes. But it’s time
to box up your pretty summer sandals and flip flops, summer dresses and sun
hats and put them in the attic until next year. If you have dresses and
skirts that you love, in some cases you may be able to transition these
through to the autumn and winter. Team them up with black tights, boots,
and a jacket, it can work well depending on the style of dress. Dig out
your waterproofs boots and wellies, jackets, hats, scarves, gloves and other
warmer weather clothes. Don’t forget nightwear too, cooler nights mean slippers and socks are essential. Go with
materials like fleece, cotton or bamboo pajamas which are
ultra comfy and perfect for relaxing around the house. Ideal for popping on
after you’ve had a bath in the evening and putting your feet up.
3. In My Makeup Bag
Fall makeup trends are vastly different from summer ones. In the summer it’s all about bronzed
complexion with nude or pink lips, light bases and natural tones of
eyeshadow. In the autumn it gets a lot bolder and more vampy. It’s
perfectly acceptable to rock a red or purple lipstick during the day. You
are likely to need a heavier foundation to conceal redness from chilly
days. Finish the look with a swipe of black eyeliner for a cool look. Autumn is a chance to go more bold!
