25 Days of Christmas: Day 16 ~ A Radio City Christmas & NYC Holiday Sights

Friday, December 16, 2011
We are lucky enough to live close to New York City. Although fabulous anytime of the year, there's something magical about New York City at Christmas-time. The decorations alone are unbelievable; inside and out. The department store windows and interiors are decked out beyond belief. It really is something you must see.

If you are within a reasonable travelling distance to NYC or are visiting for the holiday season, you must see the "Christmas Spectacular" at Radio City Music Hall. The show certainly lives up to its name.

Yesterday the Hubs and I took the girls into Manhattan for the day. We try to go every year at Christmas. However, we've missed the passed few years. This year, we promised ourselves that we wouldn't let this holiday season pass without a trip to the city.

Our first stop? The tree at Rockefeller Center. Truly a sight...
We popped in the Lego store at Rockefeller Center to check it out. My girls aren't into Legos, but we thought the store might be fun. There are several huge Lego sculptures including this dragon. Cool, right?

We stopped by St. Patrick's Cathedral to take a look inside. Absolutely breathtaking.

And then it was off to Radio City!

The girls quickly settled into their seats, patiently waiting for the show to begin. This show is on our "must-do" list every year at Christmas.

The Rockettes took the stage! They never cease to amaze me. The precision and perfection...

My favorite part of the show is most definitely "The Parade of the Wooden Soldiers". We were seated in the 3rd row. We could see everything.

Emma's favorite part is "New York at Christmas", a city-wide, virtual bus tour.

Harper's favorite part of the show is "Here Comes Santa Claus", hundreds of Santas explode onto the stage.

The show concludes with a Nativity scene complete with real animals.

The show ended, and we had some time to kill before our dinner reservation. We took a detour to American Girl Place. Probably not the best idea.

Two dolls and two outfits later, we headed to dinner. I was so engrossed in my meal that I forgot to take any pictures. I was starving, and the food was sooooo good. We ate at Ben Benson's Steak House, one of our favorites when we are in the mood for great seafood and a meat and potatoes meal.

Then it was back to Penn Station where we headed home after a long but incredibly fun and special (and expensive...ugh! ) day!
