25 Days of Christmas: Day 17 ~ Cheers to Prosecco!

Saturday, December 17, 2011
I can't imagine the holidays without toasting friends and family with a little bubbly. We pop open a bottle on Christmas Eve and enjoy a glass or two. What is left over, we save for mimosas on Christmas morning.

A few years ago, we made the switch from Champagne to Prosecco, an Italian sparkling wine with a milder taste than Champagne. First sip and I was hooked. Prosecco is a lighter, less serious version of Champagne. I find it suitable for both formal and casual gatherings. It's is also a perfect substitute for Champagne in such drinks as mimosas and bellinis.

My favorite Prosecco, by far, is produced by Cupcake Vineyards. An excerpt from Cupakes' Web site gives some insight into the Prosecco, “Our Prosecco is light and refreshing with a nose that shows hints of white peach, grapefruit and honey-dew melon. The fine effervescence gives way to creamy flavors of ripe lemons and refined citrus notes with a toasted brioche finish. Medium froth, our Prosecco is reminiscent of lemon meringue pie.”

Stock up and keep a bottle or two on hand and in the refrigerator for expected (and unexpected) guests this holiday season.

If you prefer to make a sparkling wine cocktail, check out the Poinsettia Cocktail that I featured on Day 3 of my 25 Days of Christmas, and of course, mimosas are always a good bet.
