Weekend Dispatch

Last weekend didn't leave much time for relaxing between Emma's birthday and Mother's Day, but since Mother's Day was wet and rainy, leaving us no option but to stay in where it was warm and dry, I made the best of it. I watched a movie everyone was raving about, downloaded and started listening to an audio book, and mixed up a really fun and tasty cocktail that you're going to want to make over and over again this summer.

Fans of SNL in the late 1990s and early 2000s will thoroughly enjoy Wine Country. When six girlfriends head to Napa Valley to celebrate a 50th birthday, they begin to question their friendships and their futures. They start to see a different side of each other when they are in close quarters and together 24/7. It's funny, sad, emotional, and relatable.

I've been wanting to read Michelle Obama's memoir Becoming since it came out. When a friend told me that she'd opted to listen to the audiobook rather than read the book, I thought it was a brilliant idea especially considering Obama narrates the book herself. If you have an Audible membership, you can download the book for $15. Or sign up for a trial membership and download the book for free.

On Mother's Day, I threw together a refreshing cocktail that I've bookmarked for the summer get togethers. The pineapple orange creamsicle mimosas were amazing. They are the liquid, boozy popsicle you need on a hot day. You're going to want to keep this recipe handy.

If you are local to New Jersey, the Liberty Science Center is hosting a special event on Thursday night. LSC After Dark: Paws and Prosecco. Guests 21 and over are invited to this celebration of furry friends. Grab a drink, meet fascinating creatures, enjoy prosecco tastings, and discover amazing animal abilities. Be sure to stop by the petting zoo and meet piglets, chickens, guinea pigs, and rabbits. Participate in goat yoga and practice your yoga skills with goats in pajamas!

Make your own no-bake dog treats, and watch rats show off their skills at our Rat Olympics. Plus, enjoy new shows in LSC’s Jennifer Chalsty Planetarium, the biggest planetarium in the Western Hemisphere. Midnight Market also returns this month with $5 food plates from local vendors (cash only, please).

Tickets are $20 in advance and $5 more at the door.

So, tell me. What do you have planned this weekend?
